Things to Know Before Having Your Car Repaired
Your car is a HUGE investment, likely the second largest you will make, and preserving its value and your safety is important.
DON’T DRIVE A DAMAGED CAR! Please do not drive a vehicle that has been severely damaged. Let us arrange to have it towed to our shop for you. Be aware that you ARE in control of this process.
IT’S YOUR CHOICE! Your vehicle should be repaired at the shop of your choice, not the one that will save the insurance company money. A collision center that works directly for the insurance company, rather than for you, is often pressured to repair the vehicle in a way that will save the insurance company money. Almost all collision centers give lifetime warranties on their work.
MOST SHOPS GIVE YOU A WARRANTY! Sometimes, insurance companies will make you believe that only their recommended shops have these warranties. Not all estimates are equal.
GET INSPECTED BY INDEPENDENT TECHNICIANS! We will give your vehicle a complete inspection to limit the amount of times we have to wait for supplements from the insurance company. It is important to choose a repair center with certified (by I-CAR or ASE for example) technicians that are not dependant on the insurance company. Ask the collision center that you are considering about their equipment.
TOOLS ARE IMPORTANT! A vehicle cannot be properly repaired without the correct tools. One of the best things you can do before you have an accident is plan were you will send your vehicle when you need repairs. A collision center should have a relationship with the insurance company that can be described as both aggressive and positive.
WHO COMES FIRST? They must be able to put you, the owner, first AND still get the cooperation of the insurance company. Don’t be in a rush when picking up your vehicle.
INSPECT THE VEHICLE AFTER REPAIRS! Take time to thoroughly inspect it when it is released to you. The best time to spot anything that needs to be addressed is at this time. |
